In latest Uttarakhand news, Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has put a ban on the devotees visiting the Kedarnath shrine from taking photographs and clicking videos with their mobile phones inside the temple precincts. This move is meant to stop the rampant practice of clicking videos by pilgrims on Kedarnath shrine and making them viral on social media which hurts the religious sentiment of the people associated with this revered shrine. The temple committee office bearers said that as there is no cloak room in the shrine premises, the visiting devotees can take their mobile phones with them inside the shrine but they are being banned from taking photographs and clicking videos.

Notably, a few days ago, a video purportedly showing a woman pilgrim showering currency notes inside the sanctum sanctorum of the sacred temple went viral on the social media, sparking an outrage among the people. The BKTC urged the police to keep vigil on the pilgrims to ensure that the ban is not flouted. Its office bearers further averred that actions would be taken against those to be found defying the committee’s order in this matter under the relevant rules.
