BJP leader seeking ban on ‘Kedarnath’ movie

Teaser, poster hurt Hindu sentiments, encourage love, jihad : Ajendra Ajay

Pointing at objectionable aspects in the teaser and poster of film ‘Kedarnath’, senior leader of the BJP in Uttarakhand, Ajendra Ajay has written to the Central Board of Film Certification chairman, Prasoon Joshi, seeking a ban on the movie. Though the entire story of the movie is yet to be known, the teaser and tagline in poster of the movie have elicited strong criticism in Uttarakhand where the yet to be released movie is being criticised for alleged attempt to hurt religious sentiments and purportedly promote ‘love jihad’. In his letter to Prasoon, Ajay writes that the movie directed by Abhishek Kapoor is set against the backdrop of the 2013 disaster in Kedarnath. Though the entire story of the movie ‘Kedarnath’ is not know but the teaser and poster of the movie issued on October 30 have aspects which are highly objectionable and hurtful to the sentiments of Hindu society. The teaser shows the scene of devastation in Kedarnath on one side and on the other side, the main characters Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan are shown in a sexual scene. Further, the male lead is also shown offering namaz along with others whereas this scene appears illogical on the pilgrimage to Kedarnath. Ajay further states that the poster of the film carries the tagline ‘love is pilgrimage’ which seems to imply that those undertaking the pilgrimage to Kedarnath are doing so for love affairs. Further, as the movie is said to be based on an affair between a Muslim male character and a Hindu female character, it appears as if an attempt is also being made to encourage ‘love jihad’. He further writes that aspects revealed in the teaser and poster of the movie have elicited strong criticism from Hindu community and Tirth Purohits of Kedarnath with the public also threatening to agitate on the release of the film. Citing these factors, Ajay has requested the CBFC chairman to initiate necessary measures for banning the movie ‘Kedarnath’. read more posts… Monday, 12 November 2018 | PNS | Dehradun
