Sanitation main issue for 65% public: Chief Minister

The urban local body election is very important and through local bodies the elected representatives get an opportunity to directly serve the public. Sanitation is the main issue for about 65 per cent of the public and the state government has specially focused on sanitation, said the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. He was speaking at a meet held in the Bharatiya Janata Party state office regarding the election to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun here on Thursday. Referring to the rural areas recently brought under the ambit of the municipal corporation, the chief minister said that development will take place at a faster pace in such areas. There will be a three-fold increase in the budget for such areas and problems related to electricity, water and sewer will also be resolved. The whole of Dehradun will receive 24-hour water supply after the construction of the dam on the Song river for which the target has been set at one year. He expressed hope that with the cooperation of all, the BJP candidates will register historic wins in the polls to the post of mayor and councilors. Speaking on the occasion, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt said that considering the enthusiasm among party workers, he was confident that the party’s mayoral candidate will register a win by more than one lakh votes. Similarly, the party candidates for the posts of councilors will also register historic victories, he opined. The BJP will pursue this election as mission 80-plus, he said. Appreciating the party’s mayoral candidate for Dehradun- Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Bhatt said that he had risen on the basis of his struggle. By selecting him as the mayoral candidate, the BJP had honored the party workers. Expressing his views, Gama thanked the party’s state leadership for selecting him as the BJP mayoral candidate for Dehradun. He assured that if elected, he would strive to make the municipal corporation of Dehradun, one of the best in the country. MP and former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ stressed the value of each individual vote. He expressed confidence that the BJP would perform well in the local body polls. Cooperatives minister and Dehradun district in charge Dhan Singh Rawat opined that in the local body elections, the public will once again place its trust. The BJP state general secretary (organization) Sanjay Kumar, said that the victories achieved by the party in the local body polls will benefit it in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
