In view of the alleged assault by Divya Pratap Singh, the son of former Khanpur MLA Pranav Singh on R Yashovardhan, son of former Uttarakhand chief secretary S Ramaswami, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli said that no relaxation should be given to culprits in such crimes. He said that punishment should match the offence and the police must carry out their work to ensure the culprit gets punished. The incident took place on Saturday night near Rajpur Road, where Pratap allegedly assaulted Yashovardhan and threatened him with a pistol. The video of the incident went viral on social media on Sunday. Chamoli said that as a parent he believes people should stop their children from taking such paths and must make efforts to guide them. He added that if any mistake has occurred, Champion must also be thinking that the incident should not have happened. Chamoli stated that since an offence has taken place, action is certain and the law must proceed accordingly. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan also said that it is inappropriate to make political comments or draw conclusions before the investigation is complete. He stated that the BJP government follows a zero-tolerance policy and no one is exempt from the law. He said that punishment will be delivered according to the severity of the crime. He urged everyone to allow the police to carry out their work and assured that the investigation will be conducted fairly, promptly and in accordance with the law.
