BIS organises sensitisation programme for ITBP personnel in Uttarkashi

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised a sensitisation programme on Tuesday for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel at Matli, Uttarkashi as adherence to BIS standards ensures not only product quality but also the safety of the personnel.
The programme was aimed at informing ITBP officers and personnel about BIS procedures, consumer rights, the utility of ISI-marked products and standards used in safety equipment, the director of BIS, Dehradun office, Saurabh Tiwari said. Tiwari along with other senior officials briefed senior ITBP officials and personnel on key activities of BIS, including the hallmarking system, identification of the ISI mark, the consumer grievance redressal mechanism and the use of the BIS CARE mobile application.
The officials also provided details on Indian standards and BIS certification systems related to safety equipment used in ITBP such as helmets, boots and body armour, as well as materials used in the construction of buildings and bridges. Standards for electronic goods under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), communication devices and wireless equipment were also discussed.
During his address, Commandant Sachin Kumar emphasised the importance of quality standards, stating that materials used for national security must meet the highest quality benchmarks. He said that adherence to BIS standards ensures not only product quality but also the safety of the personnel. He described the session as useful and welcomed such initiatives in the future.
