BIS conducts capacity building workshop for WECD

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Dehradun, conducted a one-day capacity building programme and workshop on Indian standards on Tuesday at the Women Empowerment and Child Development Department (WECD) office at Premnagar. BIS experts led the sessions, focusing on various standards related to women and child welfare, their application and implementation. The BIS director Saurabh Tiwari inaugurated the programme, welcomed the participants and explained the objective of the workshop. He said that knowledge of Indian standards and their effective application helps improve the quality of life for the general public. The WECD directorate Prashant Arya attended the programme as the chief guest. He appreciated the initiative and said that such information will help department personnel improve service quality and provide accurate guidance to consumers. BIS experts Shashi Bhushan Sinha and Priscilla Dey conducted the technical sessions. They shared detailed information on relevant standards, including nutrition, safety, quality standards for child products and quality control in services. Tiwari said that about 70 officials and employees of the department attended the programme. WECD officers and staff also found the workshop useful for implementing Indian standards in their work, he added.
