Independent MLA from Bhimtal in Nainital district, Ram Singh Keda, who was earlier in the Congress, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the national Capital on Friday. Kaida’s wife Kamlesh Kaida who is the Okhalkanda block Pramukh also joined the BJP on the occasion.

Speaking after joining the party, Kaida said that BJP is a national party which keeps its workers connected like a family. He said that having joined the BJP, he will continue to respect the party workers as he used to respect his supporters as an independent MLA. Kaida said that he will focus on strengthening the party further and sentiments of the party workers.

It is pertinent to mention here that Kaida is the third MLA to join the BJP in recent months. Earlier, independent MLA from Dhanaulti Pritam Singh Panwat and Congress MLA from Purola Rajkumar had joined the BJP. Kaida has been active in politics since his student days. During the Uttarakhand statehood movement he was held in various jails. He became a district Panchayat member from Nai-Dholigaon in 2003 and then a block Panchayat member from Bhumka in 2008. From the Panchayat, he went on to become a member of the Congress. During his time in the Congress, he served in various positions including those of the party’s state general secretary, state organisation minister and state secretary. When he was denied a Congress ticket to contest the Assembly election in 2017, he contested as an independent candidate from Bhimtal and won during the Modi wave.
