Thursday, 22 February 2018 | PNS | Dehradun- Taking a dig at the proposed fast by the former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on the first day of the upcoming budget session of the State Assembly at Gairsain, the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Ajay Bhatt said that the proposed fast is a manifestation of frustration on the part of a leader who is fast losing relevance in the matrix of the State’s politics while dubbing it as a cheap gimmick. Bhatt said while talking to The Pioneer on Wednesday that the allegation levelled by Harish Rawat that no work has been done at Gairsain since the BJP Government has assumed power in the State is baseless. “The Assembly building at Gairsain had no roof over it. It had no door even with the construction materials found strewn all around when the BJP Government took over. Infrastructural works are going on at a rapid pace at Gairsain and the winter session of the Assembly was held there,” he claimed. The BJP leader further said that it is the first time that the Governor would address the session at Gairsain during the forthcoming budget session. “Our Government is ensuring all round development of Gairsain so as to clear decks for the place being declared as the summer capital of the State,” Bhatt said. Lashing out at Harish Rawat, the BJP State president said that his intention on Gairsain had been murky when he was running the State Government. “At the end of his tenure as the CM, he had given a part of the Assembly building to be used as a State guest house,” he said. On a sarcastic note, Bhatt said that since Harish Rawat has no work now, it is good for him to undertake a day’s fast. “Rawat is an adept in such gimmickry. It was the same person who did ‘Bhajan and Keertan’ against his own Government,” he said. Notably, Harish Rawat on Tuesday had announced that he would sit on a fast at Gairsain on the first day of the budget session. It is learnt that the former Speaker of State Assembly Govind Singh Kunjwal and former Deputy Speaker Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri would accompany Harish Rawat during his fast. Rawat had launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, saying that things are vegetating at Gairsain since the saffron party got saddled in the seat of power.
