Bhartwan to showcase Uttarakhand’s folk culture in Europe

Renowned folk artist Pritam Bhartwan said that Uttarakhand’s rich folk culture will be showcased on an international platform through the Geet Jagar-Dhol Sagar International European Tour.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, Bhartwan said that the cultural troupe will depart for Europe to promote the traditions of Uttarakhand among the global audience, especially the Uttarakhandi expatriates abroad.
He informed that the first cultural programme will be held on December 24 in Oslo, Norway, organised by the Uttarakhand Group of Norway, where a large number of Uttarakhand natives reside. The second programme will be organised on December 28, in Zurich, Switzerland, with the support of the Uttarakhand Association of Switzerland. The tour will also include cultural engagements in Germany.
Bhartwan said that traditional folk presentations involving Geet–Jagar, Dhol–Damau and other indigenous musical instruments will be performed during the events. He added that the objective of the tour is to preserve and promote Uttarakhand’s language, folk music, customs, traditional attire and rituals at the international level.Expressing gratitude to Uttarakhandi associations in Norway and Switzerland, Bhartwan thanked the expatriates for keeping their cultural roots alive abroad. The cultural troupe will leave for the European tour on January 5 next year and provide a vibrant glimpse of Uttarakhand’s culture through its performances, he added.
