Reacting to the State government’s decision of suspending the block Pramukh of Bhagwanpur in Haridwar, the Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni has said that a criminal case should be registered against former MLA Deshraj Karnwal in the issue. The former MLA is the uncle of the suspended block pramukh. Dasauni said that the video evidence clearly shows that Deshraj Karnwal himself was operating from the block office even though the block pramukh was his niece.
She said that the BJP is now following a new model wherein the female representatives are only the mascots.
Questioning the motive of the government, the Congress leader said that it became alert only after the issue was raised by the media. She said that on one hand the BJP talks about ‘Nari Shakti’ and raises slogans such as ‘ Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, its leaders believe in making the women their puppets.
Dasauni said that the Bhagwanpur episode is the real reflection of the character of the BJP. She said that the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi introduced 33 per cent reservation for women in Panchayat Raj bodies which has enabled women to play a leading role in the political spectrum of the country. She added that the Bhagwanpur episode is a blot on the image of Uttarakhand.
