Bent road divider poses risk to vehicles in Dehradun

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

A bent iron railing on Dharampur- Fountain chowk road, one of the busiest roads of Dehradun, is creating a significant hazard for commuters. The divider has been leaning into the road for over a month now and can cause a major accident. The residents say the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) should take notice of the hazard and take immediate steps to fix it.

A shopkeeper, Vineeta Deman, whose shop faces the affected section recalled that a truck collided with the bent railing about a week ago. “Even after the accident, there are no safety measures such as warning signs or temporary barriers have been put in place. It’s only a matter of time before a major accident occurs,” she said.

Resident Suchita Shah highlighted the danger at night, especially during foggy conditions. “Vehicles move fast in the dark and if drivers fail to notice the bent railing, it could lead to serious accidents. This is not just a minor inconvenience, it is a major safety risk for everyone on the road,” she said.

When contacted the secretary MDDA, Mohan Singh Barnia told The Pioneer that authority has received a complaint. He assured that repairs would be carried out soon. “We will ensure that the damaged railing will be fixed at the earliest. Safety of commuters is our priority,” he added.
