The Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal chaired a review meeting held on Tuesday on the compliances of the resolutions passed in the previous board meeting. In the meeting many councillors expressed dissatisfaction over delays and lack of updates on works underway across various wards of the city.
The councillors alleged that despite repeated reminders, key civic issues, including sanitation gaps, pending maintenance work, encroachment removal and veterinary services have remained unresolved. They also raised concerns regarding delayed updates from department officials on their issues.
In the meeting, Bansal briefed about the sanitation arrangements made during the festival season, user charge collection and progress in instalment of the street lights. However, the explanation failed to satisfy councillors, who demanded immediate accountability of the officers.
Taking cognisance of the objections, Bansal issued strict directives stating that all pending complaints must be addressed within the next two days, and compliance reports must be shared with the respective councillors. The Commissioner further warned that failure to comply would result in salary suspension and disciplinary action against responsible officials.
In another major decision, the commissioner instructed the Land Section to remove all illegal hoardings and banners within 72 hours and appointed deputy municipal commissioner Tanveer Marwah to supervise the operation.
