The Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal carried out an extensive field inspection focusing on the city’s sanitation and drainage systems on Thursday. The inspection began at the old transfer station in Kargi, where 10,000 metric tonnes of previously accumulated waste have already been removed. Bansal directed the on-site Sunlight Waste Management Company to immediately clear the remaining 500 to 600 metric tonnes of garbage. She also instructed the company to construct a boundary wall around the transfer station area and carry out beautification work. Following this, she visited the newly constructed mechanised transfer station, where door-to-door waste collection vehicles were unloading garbage into capsules. She directed the supervisors to ensure optimal use of available compactors and to streamline the operations of the transfer station by May 30. The plant in-charge was instructed to maintain cleanliness and functionality at the facility. The commissioner then visited several Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across the city, including Palm City, Patel Nagar, Bhandari Bagh, Kanwali Road and Chakrata Road. She emphasised timely waste removal and directed officials to ensure beautification at these locations. Concluding the inspection, she reviewed ongoing cleaning operations of rivers and drains. The inspection began in Bhandari Bagh and continued through the drain near Indresh Hospital as well as drains in the Govindgarh and ONGC areas. She instructed the concerned teams to accelerate the cleaning work and complete the drain cleaning before the onset of the upcoming monsoon season.
