End discrimination against girl child for better society: Arya

The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that discrimination against the girl child should end to build a better society. She was speaking at a programme on women empowerment and nutritious future at University of Patanjali on Monday. Arya informed the students about the importance of women’s empowerment in the society. She said that in today’s time, women are not lagging behind men in any field. They are making progress in every field and becoming empowered socially, economically, spiritually and politically, she added.

She exhorted students to follow the path of MK Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri for a better life. Concerning the male-dominated society she opined that nature has given equal rights to boys and girls, in such a situation, there is a need to end discriminatory thinking towards girls.

Commenting on the approval of the Women’s Reservation Bill, Arya said, “With this, definitely in the coming time, our women will also be better represented in the Lok Sabha.  When strong women are empowered, they will play a role in building a strong country and state.” The minister also spoke about the various steps being taken for women empowerment in Uttarakhand.Addressing the gathering, university vice chancellor Acharya Balkrishna said that Patanjali has been on the forefront of women empowerment in the State and across the nation. He spoke in detail on education, values and plans for women empowerment, stressing that defending women is necessary for saving human values and culture.
