The operation of the ropeway to winter tourism destination Auli near Joshimath will be closed from Monday. This decision was taken after 27 persons- all of them working in the ropeway facility tested positive for Covid on Sunday. The Chamoli district additional chief medical officer Dr DS Khati informed that samples of 34 persons in Joshimath were taken for Covid testing and out of these 27 came out positive.

The ropeway was sanitised by the authorities on Sunday. This development comes at a time when a considerable number of visitors have arrived in Auli to enjoy skiing and other recreational activities on the slopes covered in fresh snow. Majority of these tourists use the ropeway to reach Auli.
