At least 80 people are reaching out to the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) daily to register their grievances in the control room set up three days ago on the corporation’s premises. The corporation is optimistic that this initiative will help to maintain cleanliness across the city, especially during pilgrimages. The MCH sanitation inspector Shrikant Chaudhary said that the corporation started the control room on May 24 and since then, it has received about 200 complaints related to various services provided by the corporation. He informed that the control room was opened mainly to address the sanitation related issues in the city to ensure that people can directly contact the MCH. However, the people are calling the control room regarding various issues from littering on roads to property taxes which are being addressed by the officials concerned. He said that the MCH operates the control room for 24 hours every day and employees and officials concerned are deployed there for three shifts a day accordingly. Chaudhary said that in the past three days, the corporation has received about 40 complaints related to sanitation issues that include irregular door to door garbage collection service, sweeping and blocked drains among others. Besides this, the corporation is also receiving complaints through WhatsApp in which the complainants are attaching photos regarding their issues. He said that the corporation also initiated this process to ensure that pilgrims and tourists can also easily contact the officials concerned regarding sanitation related issues. This initiative is also expected to help the city to score a good ranking in the next Swaccha Survekshan, he added.
