Terming the declaration made by the government regarding settlement of the long pending issue of settlement of assets with Uttar Pradesh as a mere eye wash, the Uttarakhand Congress has accused the BJP government for misleading the people of the state.

The media in charge of Garhwal division of Congress party Garima Dasauni said that at a time when the assembly elections are near, the chief ministers of both UP and Uttarakhand are trying to mislead the people. She said that similar assertion was made last year on November 19, 2020 also when the UP CM Yogi visited the state and he held discussions with the then CM of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat. She said that both CMs had addressed a press conference and claimed that they have reached an understanding but nothing happened even after one year. Dasauni said that since BJP is in power both in UP and Uttarakhand and even in the centre, a golden opportunity had existed to settle the issue of distribution of assets but the issue has remained unresolved.

She said that UP has a possession over 13000 hectares of land and more than 4000 buildings of the irrigation department of Uttarakhand. UP also controls 697 hectares of Mela land in Haridwar and it has refused to hand it over to Uttarakhand. She said that Bhimgoda barrage, Banbasa head and Ramganga barrage in Kalagarh are all in possession of UP. She said that UP owns the Tehri dam and is earning an annual revenue of Rs 1000 Crore from it.
