Despite the health secretary’s assurance of presenting a proposal of ASHA health workers’ demands in the next cabinet meeting, the protesting workers refused to revoke their protest. During their march to Secretariat on Tuesday to stage a protest outside its premises, city magistrate Kusum Chauhan and police stopped the protesting members of the Uttarakhand ASHA health workers union. “Six workers from the union met the health secretary Amit Singh Negi in the Secretariat at the request of the city magistrate. He asked us to give the government two more days to present our demands in the upcoming cabinet meeting and requested to revoke our protest,” said the state head of the union, Shiva Dubey.

She said that the government has asked for two more days which is not a big deal but the union will not withdraw its protest unless the government issues a government order (GO) regarding their demands. The union members are reluctant to cancel their protest as according to them, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also asked for 20 days to issue a GO last month but he did not do anything about it. “We will not protest outside the Secretariat as per the officials’ request but we will continue our protest in the chief medical officer’s office like the last 50 days,” stated Dubey.
