Sports minister Rekha Arya officially inaugurated a State-of-the-art table tennis complex at the indoor sports complex situated on Parade Ground here on Tuesday. This new facility has been established through a collaboration between the Sports department and experienced table tennis players.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya said that the athletes in Dehradun now have access to a modern complex to enhance their practice routines and host competitions. She expressed confidence that this new resource would lead to the emergence of more local talent in table tennis and would boost Uttarakhand’s representation in both national and international events. Previously, this space served as a badminton court, but the court has since been shifted to the newly constructed multipurpose hall, she said.
Arya further said that the Sports department then opted to repurpose the hall for judo and table tennis. Currently, six table tennis tables have been set up alongside the judo area, with veteran players frequently using the tables for practice in the mornings, while children and youths utilise the facility as well in the evening.
