Army flags off Himalayan motorcycle expedition to promote border tourism in Uttarakhand

The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Tourism Department, formally flagged off the Indian Himalayan Motorcycle Expedition 2025 (1-HiMEx-2.0) from Dehradun on Friday. The expedition aims to promote tourism in border areas under the Vibrant Villages initiative and attract more visitors to these regions.
The officials informed that a total of 22 riders are participating in the expedition, including 10 from the Indian Army and 12 from the Royal Enfield Community. The team will cover around 2,000 kilometres through challenging mountain routes, passing through locations such as Dehradun, Joshimath, Mana, Rimkhim, Harsil and Roorkee.
The journey will conclude in Roorkee. Senior officers from the military and Tourism department attended the inaugural event. Officials stated that the expedition will highlight the region’s natural routes and encourage activities like adventure sports and tourism. They said that such efforts not only display military endurance and teamwork but also contribute to the development of high-altitude and adventure tourism in Uttarakhand.
They informed that the riders will travel through remote routes and diverse landscapes, aiming to create awareness about the local culture and geography while showcasing the tourism potential of the Himalayan belt.
