AQI hovers between very unhealthy and very poor in Doon

Even as temperatures have remained above normal in various parts of the State, the Air Quality Index has been hovering between 200 and 300 in Dehradun for about a week now. The air quality has been fluctuating between very unhealthy and very poor in the provisional State capital with the AQI being measured at 200 (very unhealthy) on Friday night in the city. According to experts, a combination of the Doon valley’s geographical features and the lack of rainfall in the post-monsoon season is responsible for the continued trend of air pollution in the city.

Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre forecast that dry weather is likely to prevail in all districts of the State on Saturday. The provisional State capital is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky with mist likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Friday were 28 degrees Celsius and 12.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 26 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 21 degrees Celsius and 7.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21 degrees Celsius and 8.9 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum temperature was two degrees Celsius above normal in Dehradun while the minimum temperature was a degree above normal. The maximum was a degree below normal while the minimum was a degree above normal in Pantnagar. Similarly, the maximum temperature was four degrees above normal and the minimum was two degrees above normal in Mukteshwar. Both the maximum and minimum temperatures were a degree above normal in New Tehri.
