Following a nod from the State Cabinet, the process of submitting applications for the Chief Minister’s Single Women Self-Employment Scheme will commence on June 18. The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that she had launched this scheme on Monday which had been approved last month. Application process will commence on June 18 and conclude on July 31.
During a meeting with the department officials at her camp office, Arya said that the scheme is aimed at supporting unmarried, abandoned, divorced, destitute and disabled single women in the State.
Under this initiative, the eligible women can apply for self-employment projects with a maximum value of Rs 2, 00, 000. Of this sum, 75 per cent will be provided as a subsidy (grant), meaning that the beneficiaries will only need to invest 25 per cent of their own capital into the business.
She further said that the goal is to assist at least 2,000 women under this scheme in its first year. “Based on the progress to be made in the initial year, a decision will be taken about potentially increasing the number of beneficiaries in the future,” she said, adding that despite several women-specific welfare schemes currently running in the State, this is the maiden scheme specifically tailored for single women.
Arya stated, “This is an ambitious programme for single women in the State and this is going to be a significant step by the State government towards empowering the most vulnerable among the women. All eligible women can apply by reaching out to the department in their respective districts and we will consider all applications for self-employment assistance,” she added.
