HC seeks explanation from State Govt on various points

Hearing on more than 10 public interest litigations regarding the state of medical health services in Uttarakhand during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Uttarakhand high court issued various directions of the state government and directed it to submit a detailed affidavit by July 28.

During the hearing by the division bench of chief justice RS Chauhan and justice Alok Kumar Verma on Wednesday, the newly appointed chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Health secretary Amit Singh Negi, Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar and additional secretary Ashish Chauhan were present virtually. The court observed that a large number of tourists were arriving at the tourist destinations in the state and that Covid guidelines were not being followed here. The court directed the state government to reconsider the weekend relaxation given to tourists and inform the court. The state government has also been asked to submit details of the reports of samples sent for testing of the Delta variant. The court also asked what decisions had been taken by officials for precautions in the districts from where these samples had been collected.

The government has also been directed to inform the court about the number of hospitals- both government and private which have MRI machine and how many lack this facility. The state government has been further directed to provide details of the number of paediatric wards and beds in hospitals, the number of community health centres (CHCs) where doctors are available and the CHCs where they are not available. The court has also asked the state about the number of anti-Covid vaccinations being undertaken daily, the number of aged persons and differently abled who have been vaccinated so far and the steps taken by the state government for this. The government was also asked if it had considered near to home vaccination clinic. Referring to the Rs 7,500 stipend being paid to intern doctors in the state, the court asked the state government to consider hiking it.
