The Women Empowerment and Child Development minister Rekha Arya has stated that a proposal to provide sanitary napkins free to Anganwadi centres will be submitted to the State government. The decision taken in response to the long standing demand of Anganwadi workers has not satisfied the president of the Anganwadi Workers Association Rekha Negi. She also expressed concern at the workload on the Anganwadi workers.

Negi said that the state government tends to propose steps but fails when it comes to proper implementation. “Earlier too the State had proposed free sanitary napkins for Anganwadi centres but later it was not implemented,” she said.

She also expressed concern at added responsibilities which often requires the Anganwadi workers to transport the heavy cartons to remote areas. She opined that the village women are uninterested in buying such sanitary napkins due to their inferior quality. She further claimed that the state government does not directly transport sanitary napkins to the centres. Negi also requested the minister to ensure the proper implementation of the proposal.
