The officers and employees of Nanda Devi Biosphere reserve are enthused by the presence of snow leopards in the sanctuary. The camera traps placed by the forest department have captured pictures of the snow leopards.

To capture snow leopards, the forest department had set up camera traps in the National Park and while checking the camera traps the park officials witnessed the sightings of snow leopards.

Nanda Devi National park employees have set up 20 camera traps for knowing the number of snow leopards there.  The snow leopards which are captured in the camera traps are absolutely fine and healthy, said forest range officer, Gaurav Negi.

Snow leopards are usually found at an altitude of 4500 metres and they are mostly active during the dusk and night. Thus being active during the night, benefits snow leopards to hunt the preferred habitat prey.  Snow leopards are solitary and usually adopt themselves to the area. They are facing the threat from their habitat destruction.
