A section of students and teachers along with the members of the Congress’s student wing National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) have expressed disapprobation against the Samarth Portal recently launched by the State government.

Notably, the State higher education minister, Dhan Singh Rawat launched the integrated Samarth Portal in the State. In the Samarth portal, students are to register themselves in the portal and apply for admission to colleges of their choice.

However, some students and government university teachers have expressed dissatisfaction with the new initiative. The Samarth Portal is not reliable, as it has limited options of universities, stated the students.

Commenting on the Samarth Portal, a commerce stream student Manisha said that this new initiative by the state government is not at all reliable for them. “Samarth Portal involves only government universities. Apart from this, it is not possible to register on the portal through a mobile phone. Due to this, the students have to go to a cyber cafe and cough up extra charges for it. Therefore for the students, the portal is not a productive option,” she said.

Further, a teacher from a government-run university claimed that the university management is not happy with the new initiative. “In the Samarth Portal, the private information of the university stands disclosed,” the teacher said.

Asked to comment on the matter, the state NSUI president Vikas Negi said, “The portal is far from satisfying for the students. The registration fee is Rs 50. Further, the registration process is so complicated that the students have to take the help of cyber café operators. Due to this, the students are being forced to shell out Rs 250 to the café operators for the registration. Apart from this, the private universities of the State have been kept away from the portal.” He further said that NSUI is demanding the State government to make the registration procedure easy for the students.
