Agencies conduct combined security audit of Doon Railway Station

Days after the Pakistan based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) allegedly sent a letter to the railway authorities in Roorkee threatening to target railway stations in Uttarakhand, a security audit was conducted in Dehradun railway station by district police, Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Intelligence Bureau and Local Intelligence Unit (LIU). A combined report of the security audit will be sent to the authorities concerned.

GRP Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Manoj Katyal told The Pioneer, “This was a combined security audit conducted by GRP, RPF, Intelligence, railway authorities and district administration. It was to review all the security aspects. Generally every department has its own perspective in terms of security but this was a combined effort particularly because we had received a threat letter in Roorkee. Such a security audit will be conducted next in Roorkee on Tuesday and at Laksar on May 1.”

He further said, “We have discussed several aspects of security including access control, baggage scanner and CCTV surveillance. We are planning to upgrade the entire security system. At present we have 15 CCTV cameras. We are also proposing moving cameras. We have also discussed the matter of platform tickets from the point of view of access control. Many modern equipment are also in the pipeline for the proposal regarding the security of railway station.”

Circle Officer (city) Shekhar Suyal said, “Yes, a security audit has taken place in Dehradun railway station. A combined report will be sent to the authorities concerned.”

It is pertinent to mention that the metal detectors and CCTV cameras have been updated in the Dehradun railway station. According to the sources people accessing the railway station for free Wi-Fi that too without platform ticket will also be penalised as per the law.
