Monday, 09 April 2018 | PNS | Dehradun– In order to further restore normalcy in the affected areas of Agastyamuni, the Rudraprayag district police organised a meeting with the members of Vyapar Mandal on Sunday. A few days after arson and disturbance in the town, the police are alert and keeping a look out for anti-social elements. The situation in the affected area was reported to be normal and all efforts are being taken maintain peace in the district, said Rudraprayag Superintendent of police Prahlad Narayan Meena. He further informed that four teams headed by circle officer Sridhar Badola started taking action against those involved in vandalism in Agastyamuni and spreading of rumours through social networking sites regarding alleged molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor girl by persons from another community. The accused persons are reported to have left their homes and gone into hiding. No new arrests had been made till the filing of this report on Sunday evening apart from the 10 persons arrested earlier including the three accused molesters who had been arrested earlier. In the meanwhile, the girl who had been allegedly molested by three persons had recorded her statement before the magistrate. Three persons who were arrested on the charges of molestation of the girl were sent to jail after being produced in the court, he added. Police said that five persons who were allegedly involved in arson and creating law and order problems were also arrested and sent to jail. Apart from them, two persons were also arrested and sent to jail on the charges of spreading rumours through social networking sites. The SP further said that that police teams consisting of senior police officers have been formed to investigate the case. Some team members are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence while some are monitoring social networking sites to identity the persons involved in spreading rumour about the same. Police earlier said that it was learnt that rumour of 10- year old girl being gang raped by persons of another community was circulated on the social networking sites on April 6. The names of persons mentioned were purportedly fictitious and the motive was supposedly to foment communal tension. It should be mentioned here that three cases have been registered and in the first case, on the charge of molestation, an FIR has been registered under sections 354c, 292 of IPC and 66E of IT Act against Mahkar Singh and Sintu, natives of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh; Soni Kumar, resident of Haridwar. In second case, FIR has been registered under sections 147/149/436/427/435/504/506 and 7 CL Act against anti social elements named Pritam, Anup Semwal, Hardik Bartwal, Ashish, Vikas Dimri, Anand, Anil Kothiyal and others men and women in the police station. In third case, on the charge of spreading remour, FIR has been registered under sections 153/505 of IPC and section 66 of IT Act against Ashish Thapa, Swami Darshan, Amit, Punam and other men and women in the police station.
