While participating in the final day of the two-day ‘Conference of Tourism Ministers of States and Union Territories’ organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture, in Udaipur, Rajasthan, the State Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj suggested hosting an exhibition on the sacred Buddhist relics in Dehradun.

The Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the sacred Buddhist Piprahwa relics had been brought back to the country after 127 years, adding that these would soon be exhibited in New Delhi and the exhibition would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

When Maharaj requested him to allow Dehradun to hold the second exhibition while stressing the spiritual heritage of Uttarakhand and the strength of the Tibetan community living in Dehradun, the Union Minister accepted the request.

Maharaj later said that India had successfully prevented an auction to bring back the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha after a long gap of 127 years. “This move reflects the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to preserving India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage,” he added.
