HC facilitates protection to Hindu woman wanting to offer Namaz at Piran Kaliyar

Petitioner told to first submit application to police SHO

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the local police station in-charge to provide security to a young Hindu lady interested in offering Namaz at Piran Kaliyar in Roorkee area. The court has also directed the lady to submit an application to the police officer in this regard. The division bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Pankaj Purohit issued this direction while hearing the matter on Thursday. The division bench directed the petitioner to first submit an application to the station house officer in this regard. The matter will be taken up for hearing next on May 22.

The petitioner informed the court that she had not yet converted to another religion. The court asked why she wanted to offer Namaz in this case and even then why she could not offer it at her home. The lady said that she was influenced by Piran Kaliyar and wanted to offer Namaz there but added that she was being prevented from doing so. She further said that she had neither married nor did she want to change her religion.

According to the case details, the Hindu woman who hails from Madhya Pradesh and her Haridwar resident companion Farman (22) filed a petition in the HC seeking security for her to enable her to offer Namaz at Piran Kaliyar. The woman stated that she wants to offer Namaz at Piran Kaliyar but allegedly faces the risk of opposition from some religious bodies. The woman stated that she is a follower of the Hindu religion and wants to offer Namaz at Piran Kaliyar without any fear or inducement.
