Police nab kidney racket accused from Assam

The Dehradun Police have arrested Akshay Raut, who was wanted in the kidney scandal of 2017 and had a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, from Guwahati in Assam after four years.

Speaking at a Press conference on Tuesday, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Janmejaya Khanduri informed in September 2017, the police had busted a kidney racket and arrested 17 accused involved in it. During the investigation at that time, one of the main accused Dr Amit Raut said that his son Akshay Raut was also involved in the scandal who he had helped escape from Chandigarh after giving him some money.

The SSP informed that the police was searching for the accused of the past four years who was finally nabbed from Guwahati.  He said that the accused used to illegally procure kidneys from poor and destitute people for a small amount of money. He said that the accused has accepted all the charges against him. He revealed during the investigation they have also run such scandals in various places in the past like Mumbai, Gurgaon, Dehradun and Nepal.

Khanduri said that the accused had been living in many cities like Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Pune among others and working in various hospitals there in the past four years. “Considering this, we will also check with the management of the hospitals where the accused has worked in the past four years,” stated Khanduri.
