Action not Chintan would improve enrolment in govt schools : Agarwal

Suggests that the government employees, MP and MLAs should compulsorily send their wards to Govt schools

The president of the association of self financed institutes of Uttarakhand, Sunil Agarwal has said that concrete action is needed instead of holding discussions to increase the student enrolment in the government schools. Responding to the concern shown by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on decreasing student numbers in the government schools during the Manthan Shivir organised by the education department, Agarwal said that the education department should first of all increase infrastructure and other facilities in the government schools. He said that salaries of teachers of government schools are much higher than that of private schools and their qualifications are also more but even then the student enrolment in the government schools is decreasing. He suggested that the government should release an order that all the government officers, MLAs, MP and all those drawing money from the state treasury should compulsorily admit their children in the government schools. This measure would increase the confidence of government schools in the general public. He added that an increase in student numbers in the government schools would also result in increase in facilities in the private schools and a sense of competition would be set up between different schools which is good for the parents and the education. “In the present scenario the government admits that the government schools are not good as it has reserved 25 per cent of seats in the private schools for the children of BPL category. The fee of these students is given by the government. This money can be used to increase facilities in the government schools,’’ he said.
