PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the suspension of senior officials in the Haridwar land scam is part of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s policy of zero tolerance for corruption. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that this clearly shows anybody involved in corruption cannot be higher than the law, irrespective of his or her position. Stating that pressure from the Congress party was not responsible for this action, he said that the officials involved were suspended due to the chief minister’s commitment to making Uttarakhand free from corruption.

Bhatt said, “Any person or official involved in corruption in Uttarakhand cannot be higher than the law. The action taken against officials in Haridwar also proves this. The Vigilance Establishment has made 180 arrests so far in cases of corruption in various departments,” the BJP State president said. Responding to the statement made by Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara about the action being taken due to pressure from the Congress, Bhatt said that the action was bound to be taken and that there was no pressure involved. The matter had been investigated on the directions of the chief minister and the action was taken on the basis of the findings in the inquiry report. He stressed that there is no place for corruption in the State, adding that corruption was openly nurtured during the tenure of the Congress government. The formality of inquiry was completed in various cases but no action was taken under the Congress government. The Congress leaders who were caught on camera while indulging in corruption are now preaching on the issue, but the people of the State are aware of the reality, the BJP State president added.
