On the first day of the resumption of inter-state operations of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC), about 90 roadways buses were operated while following all the guidelines issued by the Central and State governments on Wednesday. As informed by the general manager (operations) of UTC, Deepak Jain, around 90 buses operated on Wednesday to Uttar Pradesh (UP) and to the border of Delhi only. He added that there were about 35 passengers in each bus and over 3,000 passengers in total who travelled on the first day after the resumption of UTC operation.

Meanwhile, people travelling to UP were happy that the inter-state bus service was resumed but some were also disappointed. “We are glad that the State government resumed the operation of roadways buses with the usual fare because in the current crisis with no proper job, the overpriced tickets would have been a great burden, especially during Diwali when we visit our family,” said Arjun Saini, a labourer who works in Dehradun. Many passengers who were not aware that the buses will go to UP only, were also waiting for the bus near Rispana. “We arrived early to wait for the bus for Faridabad but somebody informed us that no buses would go there. Why did the government not resume the operation of all the buses? I hope the buses to other states will be resumed soon,” stated Sanju Arya, resident of Karnpur, Dehradun. Moreover, it is compulsory for a passenger to register on the Smart City portal before traveling to other States. Talking about it, most of the people were fine but many opined that it could be an issue for a person who does not know to browse the internet. When Saini was asked whether he had registered himself and his family on the portal, he stated that he was not aware of this condition. “I did not know about this condition when I arrived here and I don’t know how to do it on my own. I hope that if any authorities will be checking the registration, I will be able convince them about my issue or will ask somebody to do it for me,” stated Saini.
