Accused killer sent to 14-day judicial custody for killing woman in Doon’s heart

In the Gunjan murder case that took place on Monday in Paltan Bazaar, the accused Akash who was arrested by the police, was presented before the chief judicial magistrate’s court on Tuesday. The court sent him to 14 days in judicial custody. Taking strict action in the matter, Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh suspended Khudbura Chowki in-charge Praguman Negi.
Two days before the murder on Monday, the victim had filed a police complaint against the accused Akash. In her complaint, she had stated that she feared for her life but no strict action was reportedly taken at that time. Taking this lapse seriously, the SSP suspended the Khudbura Chowki in-charge and handed over the investigation of the case to the inspector of Kotwali.
On Monday at about 10 AM, the accused Akash murdered the victim, Gunjan Srivastava by slitting her throat. The incident took place at Ansari Marg, Dulha Bazaar, creating panic in the area. In anger, local shopkeepers and residents shut down shops in Paltan Bazaar and also accused the police of not taking timely and proper action.
