CM presents Dr Bhakt Darshan Award to four teachers

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat awarded the Dr Bhakt Darshan higher education award 2020 to four educators for the commendable contribution in higher education. At a function organised in the Doon University on Sunday, the CM presented the awards to government PG college principal Mohan Chandra Pandey in the field of commerce and management, MB college Haldwani associate professor Shiv Datt Tiwari in the field of botany, PLMS PG college Rishikesh professor Satendra Kumar in the sphere of literature and professor Sanjay Kumar in the field of history. Rawat also said that scholarships will be awarded in the name of HNB Garhwal university’s former vice chancellor DS Rawat to students in science, commerce and social sphere.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the CM said that Bhakt Darshan had done various commendable works in the sphere of education. He was an able politician, educator and editor who had also made an important contribution in the Indian freedom movement. A simple person with a multi-faceted personality, he had introduced varied innovative initiatives while serving as the Union Education minister.

The CM stressed on the need for research on how to improve social and economic spheres through the local resources of the state. “There should be research on various aspects of how we can better use our natural resources and local produce. Nature has given a lot to Uttarakhand but this needs to be utilised in the correct manner. Rural growth centres have been started to bring about improvement in the rural economy. In the past six months, these centres have sold items worth more than Rs six crore,” said the CM.

State minister for higher education, Dhan Singh Rawat said that next year the Dr Bhakt Darshan awards will be presented on his birth anniversary- February 12. He said that presently degree colleges have 93 per cent faculty and that soon they will have 100 per cent faculty. Stating that four lakh students of higher education will be getting better facilities soon, he said that soon all degree colleges will be provided with 4G internet connectivity and WiFi facility.

The Dharmpur MLA Vinod Chamoli also expressed his views on the occasion.  Higher education principal secretary Anand Bardhan, Doon University vice chancellor AK Karnatak and others were also present on the occasion.
