AAP state president asked to appear before Child Rights Commission

Taking cognisance of a complaint that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) allegedly issued a bicycle to a minor child through the labour commissioner board by identifying him as a labourer, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has directed the president of the party to appear before the commission. According to the chairperson of SCPCR Usha Negi, the complainant has stated in the complaint letter that the members of AAP made a labour card of a 12 years old boy so that he can get a bicycle issued by the labour commissioner board of Dehradun. Moreover, the commission had also summoned SS Kaler, the state president of AAP in October and subsequently in November also but he did not appear before the commission. While the lawyer of the party asked the commission to extend the date, the party members publicly tore the summon letter sent by SCPCR which is a punishable offence, said Negi.

According to her, the child commission has the right to inquire anyone if they receive any complaint regarding children but further decisions are taken only after a thorough investigation. The complainant has claimed that the party is using children to fulfill their political agendas and hence requested the child commission to investigate the matter, said Negi. She informed that the party head Kaler is instructed to appear before the commission on December 22 to present his side and only after that, SCPCR will take any decision on the matter.
