Met office issues cold wave warning for today Severe cold wave likely in many parts of the state

Even as temperatures continued to plummet in various parts of Uttarakhand, the State meteorological center on Thursday issued a warning about the likelihood of cold wave to severe cold wave prevailing in many parts of Uttarakhand on Friday.

According to the weather forecast issued by the state meteorological center, the state is likely to experience mainly clear to the partly cloudy sky with dry weather likely to prevail on Friday. However, cold wave to severe cold wave is also likely to prevail in many parts of Uttarakhand during Friday. For Dehradun, the meteorological center has forecast mainly clear sky with most likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 18ºC and 3ºC respectively in Dehradun on Friday.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was 18.4 ºC while the minimum temperature was 3.4 ºC, about one degree Celsius lower than on Wednesday. In other towns of the state, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 20 ºC and 1.2 ºC in Pantnagar, 8.4 ºC and 4.7 ºC in Mukteshwar and 9 ºC and 1.4 ºCin New Tehri respectively.


Frost on road proves fatal for three

Frost on the road proved fatal for three men when the jeep they were traveling in skid off the road down the mountainside in Pratapnagar block of Tehri district on Thursday evening.  The three persons from Haridwar district are reported to have died on the spot as a result of the mishap. According to the local police, the three persons killed in the mishap have been identified. They were residents of Haridwar who had come to Pratapnagar for work related to electricity lines.
