16 per cent of electricity needs are being met through solar energy: Vijay Dhasmana
Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) Jollygrant has had a new 1000 kW rooftop solar plant installed on Friday.
Inaugurating the installation programme, the chairman SRHU Vijay Dhasmana said that with this, the university’s total rooftop solar plant capacity has increased to 2500 kW. “With the global carbon dioxide emissions nearing pre-pandemic levels, solar energy is the best option to reduce electricity consumption while the sun has always been the most reliable source of energy,” he said, adding that the university had taken its maiden initiative in this matter in 2007 with the formation of a committee.
Over the years, solar water heater panels had been installed in the Himalayan Hospital, Cancer Research Institute and all the hostels under SRHU, he stated.
