Office bearers of the new executive committee of the Nainital Hotels and Restaurants Association said that without basic facilities in Nainital and the cooperation of the administration, tourism cannot be developed in Nainital. Addressing the media here on Tuesday, the association’s new head Digvijay Bisht said that the new executive of the association will work on its strategy to boost the tourism business in the city. He said that tourism in Nainital is going through a phase affected by various inconveniences and imbalances. There is a long list of hotels which are not registered in the city. The tourism department and administration have been told repeatedly to get these hotels registered. Lack of registration results in revenue loss to the government while the actual number of hotels in the city becomes difficult to ascertain. Further, quality tourism is decreasing by the day due to a lack of facilities with about a 50 percent drop in business during the past five years. While tourism contributes 17.5 percent to the State’s total revenue, facilities in places like Nainital have not developed for many years now, said Bisht. The roads in the city are damaged and supporting walls all around the Naini lake are also damaged. He further said that a delegation of the association will soon meet the district magistrate to raise relevant issues.
