Security tightened for Vice President’s three-day visit to Nainital

Over 400 police personnel, three companies of PAC, one company of paramilitary force, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and drone surveillance have been deployed for the security of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar who is on a three-day visit to Nainital starting on Wednesday, the inspector general of police Nilesh Anand Bharne said. He informed that additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive locations across the district and nearby areas. The police and district administration are maintaining close monitoring at every level to prevent any lapse.
The Vice President’s programmes are being treated as a top priority, with local administration and university officials coordinating preparations. The police have made all preparations including traffic management on routes and crowd arrangements at venues, he added. Besides this, three doctors from the district will remain with the Vice President throughout the visit. BD Pandey Hospital, Dr Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital and Soban Singh Jeena Base Hospital have been designated as safe houses under protocol. The Health department has also prepared backup support at Dr Sushila Tiwari Hospital and selected private hospitals in Haldwani.
Informing about the Vice President’s schedule, the additional district magistrate (Administration) of Nainital Vivek Roy said that Dhankar will depart from Bareilly Airport at 8:50 AM on Wednesday and arrive at the Army Helipad in Haldwani at 9:30 AM. From there, he will travel to Nainital by road. He will attend the foundation day ceremony of Kumaun University at 11 AM as the chief guest and stay overnight at Raj Bhawan, Nainital. Dhankhar will leave Raj Bhawan at 9:50 AM on June 27 to attend an event at Sherwood College. After the programme, he will depart from Sherwood College at 11 AM and reach the Army Helipad in Haldwani at 12:30 PM, from where he will return to Bareilly Airport, the ADM added.
