The naked body of a man was found hanging from a tree under suspicious circumstances near the Air Force Officers’ Mess on Rajpur Road in Dehradun in the wee hours of Sunday.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police arrived at the spot after receiving information and brought the hanging body down from the tree.
The police took him to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was then sent for postmortem. Sing said that the CCTV footage from the area showed the man arriving at the location alone. Initial inquiry at the scene and interaction with local residents revealed that the deceased appeared to be mentally unstable and was often seen wandering the streets in a naked state, wearing only a gamcha. One person had also reported seeing him around the same tree earlier that night, he said.
Singh stated that preliminary findings and eyewitness accounts suggest the man may have ended his own life. However, the police are continuing a thorough investigation into all possible angles related to the incident. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, he added.
