With the Dhikala zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve having been closed for tourists since Sunday, two gypsies carrying tourists who had gone for overnight stay on Saturday got stuck in the strong current of Gajar and Jamun drains.
It is learnt from the CTR officials that when the tourists who had gone for overnight stay on June 14 were returning the incident happened. “While on its way back from Dhikala, when the gypsies came near the drains near Sarapduli these drains, fed by rain, saw higher water levels and faster current. The gypsy got stuck and the tourists started screaming. Meanwhile, the park warden, Amit Gwasikoti rushed to the spot along with other forest personnel and they rescued the four tourists, including a woman. They were then enabled to cross the drain and return to safety,” a forest officer said. Due to the heavy shower, the canters which had gone to Dhikala in the morning had to return halfway.
Speaking of the matter, the CTR director, Saket Badola said that the forest staff had succeeded in rescuing the tourists out of the overflowing nalas and helped them reach their destinations safely.
