The Uttarakhand Transport department has decided to take strict action against vehicles, particularly roadways buses that violate permit conditions. The Transport secretary and Transport commissioner Brijesh Kumar Sant stated this in a meeting held with senior officials at the Transport Bhawan here on Friday.
They discussed the need to take action against buses that are registered as contract vehicles but operate as stage carriages, particularly those running between cities like Delhi and Jaipur to Dehradun and other locations. Sant directed all regional and assistant regional transport officers to carry out focused enforcement against such violations. The department also decided to conduct regular checks on the buses of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC). Officers will verify whether all passengers receive tickets.
Transport tax officers and assistant regional transport officers (ARTOs) will jointly inspect buses along with UTC officials. Any case where passengers are found travelling without tickets will lead to enforcement action against those responsible. The meeting also focused on strengthening the fleet of the UTC. The department considered the purchase of new buses every year to ensure an adequate number of vehicles in the future. Officials discussed the inclusion of electric and better-quality buses along with standard models in the fleet.
The department also explored ways to improve the structure of the UTC to enhance its operational capacity. The Transport secretary also instructed the formulation of short-term, medium-term and long-term plans to improve the condition of the corporation. The meeting was attended by additional secretary of Transport and UTC managing director Reena Joshi, joint transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh and assistant transport commissioner Shailesh Tiwari among others.
