MCD plants 5,100 trees, collects plastic waste on World Environment Day

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) conducted a large scale plantation and plastic waste collection drive to mark World Environment Day on Thursday. The corporation planted a total of 5,100 trees across various locations within the city limits. The main plantation event took place in the Mothrowala area which was attended by Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal, local councillors and other officials and staff of the corporation.  The mayor stated that the corporation will also take responsibility for the maintenance and protection of these trees in the coming days.

During the event, he administered the Mission LiFE pledge to all attendees and urged people to avoid using plastic products. The Mission LiFE stands for Lifestyle For Environment which is a campaign by the central government to promote and encourage a sustainable living and environmental conservation. As part of the Environment Day programme, MCD also deployed Plastic Express vehicles to collect plastic waste from several commercial establishments and residential societies. The main plastic waste collection event was held at the Mall of Dehradun, where the mayor, the municipal commissioner and other officials were present. The mall handed over approximately 150 kilogrammes of single-use plastic to MCD. Plastic was also collected from Vidlans Apartment, Kewal Vihar, Centrio Mall, the Post Office, Siddharth Apartment and other locations. After processing, the collected plastic waste will be handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) for use in road construction, as per the officials.
