Demand for bathtubs increases as mercury soars

As temperatures begin to rise, the demand for bathtubs sold at many shops and roadside stalls in certain areas of Dehradun has notably increased. Many vendors of portable swimming pools are reporting that residents are purchasing these bathtubs for their children, opting for the convenience of home over visits to outdoor swimming pools during the hot weather. The vendors indicated that the bathtubs they offer are available in various sizes, catering to a range from two to eight feet.
One vendor, Ramesh, said that he has recently set up a stall specifically for bathtubs. During the winter months, he sold comfortable and decorative seating for homes, but he shifted his focus to bathtubs for the summer. He said that the demand for bathtubs has grown as parents increasingly prioritise hygiene for their children, preferring to use bathtubs at home rather than go to swimming pools, where the water is typically changed every one to three days.
Additionally, another vendor of swimming pools, Asif, said that the demand for bathtubs has surged as temperatures rise. He said that he has been selling bathtubs in a range of sizes, from two feet to eight feet. The prices for these bathtubs vary based on their size, with an average cost between Rs 400 and Rs 3000.
Many other bathtub vendors have conveyed a similar sentiment regarding the increased demand for bathtubs.
A customer named Vineta Sharma said that she purchased a bathtub for her children because she prefers not to let them use outdoor swimming pools. She emphasised that bathtubs at home maintain better hygiene and provide safety, alleviating parents’ concerns about dangers such as drowning. Sharma also said that during summer vacations, the bathtub serves as an alternative activity to keep children engaged.
