KU observes International Museum Day

To mark the International Museum Day, a seminar on the role of museums for rapidly changing communities was organised at DSB campus of Kumaun University in Nainital under the joint aegis of the university’s History department and the academic forum Scholarly Horizon. A large number of students/researchers and professors were present. The speakers discussed this topic in a contemporary perspective.

In her address, the convener of the Himalayan Museum, Prof Savitri Kaida Jantwal said that museums not only preserve the heritage of the past but are also becoming centres of cultural dialogue and community participation in modern times. She emphasised that in a rapidly changing society, museums need to change their functioning and promote community participation. A researcher Rishabh Rawal presented his research paper on the historical background of International Museum Day and its global relevance.
