Trees prevent tourist vehicle from falling 150 feet down mountainside, visitors safe

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Nainital
Four tourists had a miraculous escape when trees on the mountainside prevented their four-wheeler from falling further down the side. According to sources, a Scorpio SUV met with an accident near Ampadav on the Haldwani-Nainital national highway at about 10:30 AM on Sunday. The four persons in the vehicle turned out to be safe after the mishap because of the protective role played by trees.
Sources further informed that the Scorpio with registration number UP 14 WD 8888 was being driven from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh to Nainital. The driver lost control of the vehicle near Ampadav, causing it to fall about 30 feet down the mountainside before finally getting stuck in trees. All the four persons in the vehicle were reported to be safe.
Police personnel on patrol including post in-charge Shyam Singh Bora, Deepak Joshi and Dharmendra Sahni rescued the tourists from the gorge. According to sources, had the trees not prevented the vehicle from falling further down, it would have tumbled about 150 feet down before landing on the lower stretch of the highway, which could have had potentially fatal consequences.
