Multi-level parking facility to open at district hospital

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

With the initiative of the district magistrate, the construction work of the multi-level parking at Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital has been nearly completed. Informing about this, the medical superintendent of the district hospital Dr VS Chauhan said that the district magistrate, Savin Bansal, recently initiated this project. Construction of the multi-level parking began a few days ago within the hospital grounds.

Dr Chauhan said that the work is now almost finished and that the facility will be operational soon. He said that the multi-level parking structure consists of three levels, capable of accommodating an average of 18 four-wheelers at once. This parking will be offered free of charge, and both patients and staff will have access to it.

Currently, the hospital provides parking for 100 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers, but with the opening of the multi-level facility, additional space will be available. With the introduction of the multi-level parking facility, the issues of traffic and congestion that occurred due to previous limitations will be addressed. Additionally, vehicles that were previously parked outside the hospital will now be accommodated in this new structure and other designated places, he said.

It is pertinent to mention that “The Pioneer” has previously highlighted the increasing parking shortages. The limited availability of parking spaces has been detrimental, affecting the movement of doctors and patients and obstructing pathways for visitors. There have also been instances of disputes between patients and the parking contractor.

Many patients and their companions have expressed concerns about the lack of adequate parking options at the hospital. Further, a staff member from the hospital’s parking contractor highlighted that the insufficient parking has compelled some hospital employees to park inappropriately, which sometimes leads to traffic congestion on the hospital grounds.
