Four injured after attack on Dalit family in Roorkee

A dispute between two sides resulted in four members of a Dalit family being allegedly assaulted and injured by members of a particular community in a village in Roorkee area of Haridwar district on Saturday. The victims alleged that some members of the Muslim community attacked them in their home following a dispute regarding the construction of a road. Four persons including two women were injured in the incident. Meanwhile, considering the sensitivity of the situation, the police have deployed force in the village to maintain order and peace. According to sources, the incident took place in Toda Ahatmal village in Roorkee following a dispute between two groups regarding the construction of a road. It is alleged that some members of a particular community attacked members of a Dalit family in their home.
According to members of the Dalit family, some members of the Muslim community wanted to build a road through their temple land. When members of the Dalit family reportedly refused to allow that, they were allegedly chased back to their home and beaten up.
The Haridwar superintendent of police (Rural) Shekhar Chandra Suyal said that a dispute related to land was going on in the village for some time. The situation resulted in an altercation involving the two groups on Saturday. He further informed that people from both the sides are being brought to the police station while those injured in the incident were taken for medical examination. Further action will be taken as per the series of events. Meanwhile, police force has been deployed in the village to maintain peace, the SP added. According to sources, the authorities have the situation under control with the police presence in the village aimed at ensuring that the situation does not escalate.
